Gorgeous, fast, desirable and practical are four adjectives that often disassociate when describing a car, in the case of Ferrari’s forthcoming F12 however, this is not the case.
It sounds cliché, but when you first clap eyes on the F12, you really can feel your breath being taken away. Ferrari has vetoed the over-styling tendencies which it became known for in the late noughties and has bestowed upon the F12, a simple, rakish profile with deep, upswept slashes dominating the flanks.
At the front, a deep front bumper and wide-mouthed grille gives a snarling appearance that still manages to appear elegant in its simplicity while at the rear, circular tail lights similar to those of the 458 are complemented by imposing quad exhausts. The larger detailing gives a much more modern look when compared to the 599, the F12’s predecessor. The model is practical too with a sizeable 320 litre boot that grows to a hatchback-rivalling 500 litres when the load divider is removed.
The F12 is comfortably the fastest-ever Ferrari road-car, reaching 0-62mph in 3.1seconds, two-tenths of a second quicker than the 599 GTO, Ferrari’s previous fastest road car. This figure has been achieved through the fitment of a 6.2-litre V12 engine that serves up 730bhp – that’s sixty more than the 599 GTO, along with 509ib ft of torque. Top speed is 211mph.
Dynamically, the model is superior in many ways to its successor being lower, narrower and shorter than the 599 and being based around a chassis constructed from 12 different alloys of aluminium, which means that the F12 is a full 70kg lighter, with a 1630kg kerbweight.
